Background
In 2015 the Sunshine Coast council purchased a 15-hectare site, formerly Horton Park Golf Club, in the heart of Maroochydore and created a vision to develop a new central business district. The new $2.1b CBD is planned to include a total of 150,000m2 of commercial space, 65,000m2 retail and 4,000 apartments along with a 167-room hotel and convention centre. A smart city framework has been designed with an underground automated waste network already constructed with digital signage, automated lighting and undersea high-speed internet cable from Asia set to follow.
Solution
A project of this scale required a multi-faceted approach to marketing. A solution both feature and information rich to encompass all the opportunities available within the site. Scharp delivered a suite of high-quality marketing assets, including a gallery of 3D imagery, fly-through animations and movies. An interactive 3D virtual environment allowed users the freedom to travel throughout the masterplanned city. Scharp even designed the cityscape architecture, creating a realistic vision for the city and all future stages of the project. All of this was packaged within a multi-use, multi-platform interactive app. Not only was the app required in the on-site display suite but was needed by the travelling sales team to present to their high-end clients, both internationally and within Australia.
Outcome
Construction has begun on key sites of Maroochydore City with the Holiday Inn hotel set to open in 2020 and the first commercial building, a $30m Cottee Parker-designed office, underway. The Sunshine Council estimate up to 2 million more passengers will fly to the region by 2040, with population to grow from 346,522 to 500,000 by 2036.
