Background
We are pleased to see designs have been released and the Plenary Health consortium has commenced work on the $1.5 billion new Footscray Hospital, the largest health infrastructure investment in the state of Victoria's history. Scharp provided visual collateral for the comprehensive tender, including CGI 3D renders, fly-throughs and video tracking animation. Despite the challenges of delivering such a large scale bid in the restricted work conditions brought on by a COVID-affected 2020, the project was a huge success. Scharp delivered on time and to the highest standards required for bids of this scale. The project is being delivered as a public-private partnership, with Western Health as the public operator of all clinical services and Plenary Health contracted by the Victorian Government to finance, design, construct, and maintain the hospital for 25 years following construction completion. The consortium comprises Plenary Group as sponsor, investor and asset manager; Multiplex as builder; Honeywell and Compass as facility services providers; and an integrated design team of Cox Architecture and Billard Leece Partnership.
Solution
A project of the scale and importance of the new Footscray Hospital required the highest quality CGI 3D renders available to truly capture the excellence of the new precinct. In total 18 images were created, covering a multitude of angles, from aerial helicopter photomontages to a range of exterior and internal CGI 3D Renders. Multiple fly-though animation sequences were produced, focusing on key design features and functionality of the hospital. At the request of the VHBA, Scharp delivered further animation sequences utilising powerful video tracking software to accurately insert the 3D representation of the proposed architecture into drone video footage. The results were stunning, portraying the proposed design accurately and realistically over real-life video.
Outcome
In Oct 2020 The Plenary Health consortium was named preferred bidder to design, construct, finance and maintain this amazing new facility. Scharp was thrilled to help bring to life the winning bid. The hospital project itself began construction by Multiplex in March 2021. All at Scharp will follow the progress of the project with great interest, and look forward to seeing it's completion in 2025.
