Lockerbie: a new city in Melbourne’s north

On June 12 at Federation Square, Planning Minister Matthew Guy announced the creation of six new suburbs for Melbourne to much public fanfare and media attention. Working to an incredibly limited deadline and in conjunction with the Growth Areas Authority, developer Stockland and architects Hassell, Scharp created the media presentation for one of those new suburbs, Lockerbie.

Regardless of what you made of the media storm which followed the Minister’s announcement, there’s no doubting the significance of the Lockerbie project. It will be the “largest greenfield residential project ever undertaken in Victoria, representing a total end value of more than $4 billion,” will house 30,000 people, and create 25,000 jobs.

All the local media outlets such as Channel Nine, ABC, The Age and Herald Sun ran the story, and prominently featured Scharp’s Lockerbie presentation as a representation of the story as a whole.
