The Grand Reveal – Scharps Queens Wharf bid visualisations finally unveiled!

Scharp are celebrating the public release of their visualisations that brought clients’, Destination Brisbane Consortium, design concepts to life.

The public release of both bids were unveiled to the public in late December, providing the opportunity for the local community to understand the project’s vision and objectives for the precincts renewal. Queens Wharf is set to revitalise the northern bank of the Brisbane River mirroring the reinvention of South Bank. The project, with an impressive budget of $1B, will be invested in significantly upgrading public amenity and developing a world class entertainment precinct that will attract visitors from around the globe.

Destination Brisbane Consortium’s (Echo Entertainment Group, Far East Consortium and Chow Tai Fook Enterprises) design was specifically architected to activate and connect South Bank, the CBD and Queens Street Mall, by transforming the heritage Treasury casino buildings into a premium shopping experience. In addition to the high calibre retail offerings the design also proposes to include an incredible six-star Ritz Carlton hotel, and establishing a new pedestrian bridge to South Bank, connecting the district to the heart of Brisbane’s arts area and the new lyric theatre at QPAC.

The design and the many attractions and features were shaped after specific research conducted in key markets across Queensland, Australia and China. The research demonstrated that our particular scheme will deliver 1.39 million additional overnight tourist visitors to Queensland each year from Day 1. The iconic architecture and public realm have been painstakingly developed as a quintessentially Brisbane landmark. Extensive consultation and local architects have ensured that Destination Brisbane Consortium’s design fits and amplifies Brisbane’s unique subtropical climate, lifestyle, cityscape and heritage assets.

Scharp worked alongside various stakeholders to help create the bid presentation for the Queensland Government’s assessment and project consideration process.

“We leveraged our architectural, creative and technical know-how to execute the proposal that is set to turn a few heads within the bid team”, said Malcolm Schapel, Director of Scharp. “As Josef Seidler, Group Property Development Director of Echo Entertainment, states ‘Being able to understand, work and adapt our design information from multiple consultants is an incredible effort in itself, but for Scharp to take this and make it into a fantastic showcase for the bid was an amazing achievement in such a short program’,” said Malcolm.

Scharp developed 28 3D visualisations and over three minutes of animations in a movie and a slick interactive iPad and PC presentation, that delivered the major bid in a simple iPad application.

With the preferred proponent to be announced early 2015 we are keeping our fingers and toes crossed that Destination Brisbane Consortium get to be the team that will take Brisbane’s waterfront to the world stage!
